Coping with Anxiety

Have you ever felt so worried, that it feels like everything might go wrong? Have you felt tense, restless and nervous the whole time? Have these feelings ever made your heart beat faster, making it feel like you can’t breathe? These are all symptoms of anxiety and it is difficult to deal with it, when you simply just don’t know how.

Occasional anxiety is normal and something that most of us feel from time to time. For example, when you realise that you did not study for a test that you are about to write or when you are asked to make a speech in front of the class.

Anxiety is different to normal everyday stress. Stress can be managed and tends to disappear when a situation changes. For example, to stress about exams will disappear after exams are over. Anxiety however, is severe distress that will persist and often feels out of your control.
